Meeting the Challenge of Aging

The story behind SeniorsSmartHomes

Hi, I'm Olly Farmer. I founded SeniorsSmartHomes with a simple but urgent mission: to help independent seniors stay safe in their own homes using the technology I've spent a lifetime mastering.

A 40-Year Foundation in Technology

Before smart homes were even a concept, I was building the infrastructure that powers the modern world. My career spans over four decades in the Information Technology sector, working with industry giants who demanded nothing less than perfection and reliability.

I learned how to solve complex problems, how to build systems that don't fail, and—most importantly—how to make technology work for people, not the other way around.

The Caregiver's Journey

Life, as it often does, presented a challenge that no server room could prepare me for. My mother was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia.

For over 10 years, I became her primary caregiver. I watched the fiercely independent woman I knew struggle with the simple tasks of daily living. I felt the constant worry: Is she eating? Did she take her meds? Is she safe at night? What if she falls?

I realized that the "solutions" available to most families were outdated, intrusive, or simply ineffective. The gap between what technology could do and what it was doing for seniors was massive.

Bridging the Gap

I decided to apply my 40 years of IT experience to this personal crisis. I started testing sensors, voice assistants, and automated safety systems. I wasn't just looking for "gadgets"—I was looking for lifelines.

SeniorsSmartHomes is the result of that journey. It combines enterprise-grade technical knowledge with the empathy and practical understanding that only comes from a decade of caregiving.

Here, we don't just review products. We evaluate tools for survival, independence, and dignity.
